When the Washington Redskins (4-5) head to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers (9-0) on Sunday, it will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two squads. The Redskins lead the series 7-4 after winning the first six games.
The first meeting took place on Christmas Eve 1995 at RFK Stadium in front of 42,903 fans. Led by Terry Allen’s 105 total yards and two rushing touchdowns, the Redskins beat the Panthers 20-17. That score would be duplicated three more times over the course of the series, with the Redskins taking the first two (December 24, 1995 and September 3, 2000) and the Panthers taking the next two (November 16, 2003 and October 11, 2009).
Quarterback Gus Frerotte completed 10 of 24 passes for 185 yards. Defensive end Rich Owens and linebacker Marvcus Patton each logged a sack while safety James Washington and cornerback Scott Turner each tallied an interception.
On the third day of training camp, the Washington Redskins took part in their first fully-padded practice, with some new drills that weren’t on display the first two days.
Redskins training camp wasn’t quiet for long. On the second day, the team signed troubled linebacker Junior Galette while it was announced that cornerback Bashaud Breeland was suspended one game for his citation of marijuana possession during last year’s training camp.
During practice Breeland suffered an apparent leg injury and was carted off the field. He is expected to miss several weeks.

This breakdown was a hit with readers last year so I’ll continue it again this year.
The Washington Redskins are attempting to start fresh under new general manager Scot McCloughan, who has brought a different attitude and scouting perspective after stints with successful franchises like the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.
The team isn’t expected to improve on it’s record from the last two seasons (3-13 in 2013 and 4-12 in 2014) much, if at all, but under McCloughan’s guidance, the quality of the roster appears to be on the upswing.
The Washington Redskins experienced their first draft under new general manager Scot McCloughan and came away with 10 picks. It’s the fourth time of the 10 drafts McCloughan has been directly involved in with the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Redskins in which the team left with at least 10 picks.
