On day two of the 2015 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins added to their defensive front seven by selecting Mississippi State defensive end Preston Smith in the second round at 38th overall.
Smith is known for his versatility and can rush the passer from both the inside and outside. In 2014, Smith started all 13 games at Mississippi State and led the Bulldogs with 15 tackles for loss, 15 quarterback hurries and nine sacks.
Likely to convert to a standup linebacker in the pros, Smith totaled 11.5 sacks in 24 career starts.
The 6-5, 271-pound defensive end is known more for his size and ability to move around than his athleticism. He has been compared to Denver Broncos defensive lineman Antonio Smith and Detroit Lions defensive end Jason Jones.
