How the top NFL preview magazines view the Redskins

For as long as I can remember, I’ve obtained NFL preview magazines every year to break down rosters, analyze team pickups, look over league-wide predictions, and on top of it all, see how the Redskins stacked up against the rest of the league and the NFC East.

That obsession of buying these magazines continues to this day, with fewer to choose from than in years past but just enough to get me ready for training camp in the doldrums of the sports calendar.

The top paperbound prognosticators remaining are Lindy’s, Athlon and Sporting News.

Watch U.S. soccer fans react to the game-winning goal over Ghana

Monday evening provided one of the top theatrical moments in sports this year. Just 29 seconds into the United States’ first World Cup match of the year, Clint Dempsey fired the opening salvo, putting the U.S. up 1-0 over Ghana. However, in the 82nd minute, Andre Ayew tied the game 1-1, leaving American soccer fans a nervous wreck. Four minutes later, former Maryland Terrapin Graham Zusi delivered a corner kick that was headed in by John Brooks and sent America into a frenzy.

D.C. United Unveils Updated Renderings of New Stadium

Last July, plans were announced to build a new soccer stadium for D.C. United. The stadium is set to open in 2016 at Buzzards Point just blocks away from Nationals Park. Along with the announcement came artist renderings of what the potential stadium and surrounding area would look like when it was completed. The stadium is expected to seat anywhere from 20,000-25,000 fans.

Today, the team unveiled updated images of what they envision the state-of-the-art soccer stadium would look like. And boy does it look marvelous. Take a look.

Maryland Trying to #ThinkB1G

The University of Maryland has apparently been gearing up for its upcoming move to the Big Ten Conference (which will be made official on July 1) by shipping out pairs of University of Maryland/Big Ten sunglasses to former athletes, coaches, board of trustees and media members. It’s reach on Twitter is far and wide.

The school plans a two-day celebration including a “Big Ten Night” at Nationals Park on June 30 and an on-campus celebration on July 1, the official day of the move.

Nationals Select Ryan Ripken, son of Cal Ripken, Jr. in MLB Draft

It’s been no secret that there is a blooming relationship between the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. On Saturday, the bond grew even stronger when the Nationals selected his son, Ryan, in the 15th round (454th overall) of the 2014 MLB Draft.

Former Redskin Sean Taylor remembered through father’s football team

This week Washington Redskins safety Ryan Clark carried on his tradition of wearing number 21 during practices to honor his friend and late teammate Sean Taylor, who died in 2007 at the age of 24 after suffering a gun shot wound to the leg.

Taylor’s number 21, which hasn’t been worn by a Redskin since his death, has joined the ranks of the team’s unofficially retired jersey numbers along with the likes of team legends such as John Riggins’ 44 and Art Monk’s 81.

It’s only fitting that this week also marked the debut of “Sean Taylor Field” at BankUnited Center on the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables, Fla.
